Showing the Best to the World at the Santos Tour Down Under

Following the success of the bespoke gelati made for last year’s event, Gelista and the Santos Tour Down Under have announced that arrangements have been put in place to have a Gelista made bespoke gelati for the event in 2025 and 2026.

Since its inception in January 1999, the Santos Tour Down Under has quickly grown to become one of the world's great cycling tour events. Attracting participants and spectators from all around the world, the Santos Tour Down Under in 2025 will again be a Platform for highlighting the very best of Australia to the rest of the world.

It is for this reason that Gelista sees so much value in partnering with the Santos Tour Down Under to produce a bespoke gelati for a further two years. The 2025 bespoke flavour will be a blood orange sorbet.

Gelista is a South Australian family-owned artisan gelati and ice cream producer, which had its origins hand making gelati and ice cream for leading chefs in some of Adelaide’s finest restaurants. Today, Gelista continues to make gelati and ice cream for chefs thorough the nation and has also made its products available through premium food supermarkets and specialty stores across Australia, and even to export markets.

“Adelaide is an amazing city and South Australia can lay claim to many exceptional food producers. This high standard really pushes us to maintain our quality standards and creativity at the very highest levels”, says Gelista founder and Managing Director, Peter Cox. “But this also means we have easy access to some really amazing local ingredients. To have such quality on our doorstep becomes a real asset”.

This year's bespoke gelati is a blood orange sorbet which is a dairy free flavour inspired by the legendary Blood Orange & Dark Chocolate from the initial jar range launched by in Gelista in 2016. That product, still popular today, is a sherbet meaning the milk base and the fruit juice combine to make a tingling and yet sumptuous sensation in the mouth. Innovative by nature, Gelista is the only Australia producer of Sherbet on a commercial scale distributed to stores across Australia.

By comparison, the Blood Orange Sorbet that will be the bespoke product for the 2025 Santos Tour Down Under has no milk or other dairy ingredients leaving the blood orange juice to be the star of the gelati.

“With a real focus on ingredients with terroir, that is ingredients that really reflect their origins in their quality and taste, we use Nippys blood orange juice in all our blood orange products”, says Peter Cox. “The quality is amazing and very reliable from year to year. They are simply one of the best citrus providers we could find.”

Gelista was also the first company in Australia to package ice cream or gelati in a see-through jar, first in the 570mL format and then in the premium single serve 150mL format, allowing the consumer to see for themselves the quality of what was inside before they purchased it. This packaging has become distinctively recognisable as Gelista products. The bespoke Santos Tour Down Under gelati flavour will be packaged in the iconic Gelista 150mL single serve jar with both the Gelista and the Santos Tour Down Under logos on the special commemorative label.

“Don't throw our jars into the rubbish, whatever you do”, says Peter Cox. “They can be easily recycled, or even better, upcycled as a storage container in your kitchen or your shed, perhaps even for those fiddly bits of bike gear parts. But with so few made for such a great occasion, I hope you keep them simply as a souvenir of this wonderful event!”

The bespoke and specially packaged blood orange sorbet will be served at various functions during the Santos Tour Down Under. Cool and inviting, it should be an absolute hit with the cycling fans, media and VIPs lucky enough to get their hands on them!
