Peter Cox, Founder and Managing Director of Gelista, tells the story of starting the company with the aim of supporting local producers to make highest quality gelato he could.
The Terroir of our ingredients, our crafting techniques, our commitment to innovation and our passion to indulge our customers come together to make a taste and texture that’s uniquely Gelista.
The Gelista Business Philosophy
At Gelista, we began by making the Gelato that chefs wished they had time to make for themselves. We started out producing our premium wholesale five litre tubs for fine dining, function centres and cafes.
In 2016 our range expanded to include the 570mL jar for supermarkets. We now produce over 50 flavours, supplying restaurants, cafes, hospitals, schools and independent supermarkets across Australia.
Established in 2009
Peter Cox identifies an opportunity to start crafting a premium wholesale gelato product for restaurants and cafes.
Gelista the name is Peter’s play on words. Baristas are professional coffee makers- and so Gelista is a professional gelati maker.
The word Gelista also contains all the letter of Gelati (s).
We aim to add value to Australian Primary Produce, particularly dairy.
We source real Australian ingredents direct from the farmer wherever possible.

Retail Gelato Pack
In 2016 we launched our 570ml retail gelato jars to bring our premium product to the Australian consumer. We were the first Australian manufaturer to pack gelato in this unique format, delivering transparency in our packaging as well as our ingredients.
