When we talk about our food ingredients at Gelista, our conversations are centred around the quality and authenticity of our ingredients. We look to regions where the reputation of the food is maintained, usually by long established quality growers and producers in the region.
In our brand story, we refer to the terroir of our ingredients. The term, terroir; unashamedly stolen from the world of wine has no direct translation in the English language. But it is really used to describe the sense of quality and place of origin distinctive in our ingredients.
So, at Gelista, we actively seek out the best ingredients to include in our fantastic gelato and ice-cream product. It means that at any point in time we are actively seeking out better ingredients for our Gelista range of products. If you’re an ingredient producer and we select your product, it means that we believe your product is the best that we can find.
Surprisingly, we find that many of our great products are right on our door step, and I find myself asking, why is that?
The answer is really quite simple and I’ve condensed it down into the top two;
- We are blessed with a strong food and wine culture. Our pioneers, settling in the local regions, spent their time and effort to establish this culture. Being a 4th generation dairy farmer/vegetable grower I’ve come to appreciate the effort my father and his fore-fathers who carved out for themselves a life of dedication to towards their chosen craft of endeavour. Whilst my history is about dairy milk and vegetables, I’ve grown to respect the stories I’ve heard from my suppliers about many other premium food ingredients. Originally, many different cultures settled Australia, and they brought a rich history of food and wine with them.
- Diversity in our agriculture production and distinctive regions, temperatures and rainfalls. Along the eastern seaboard of Australia, including SA, we have access to not less than about 8 Koppen Climate types. Because of this, we have access to Kensington Pride mango, well respected by chefs nationally as being “the best” mango in the world. Between the top of QLD to the Huon valley in Tasmania (where we find our raspberries) we have access to a truly bountiful basket of the best ingredients on the planet.
Our commitment to innovation and our passion to indulge our customer drive us to seek out and find beautiful ingredients. Our mission each day is to ensure our customers experience a taste and texture, uniquely Gelista. Having such a basket of high quality primary produce closely at hand makes our mission possible.
